CATALYST

CATALYST

Catalyst Semiconductor, Inc. was a fabless semiconductor company, founded in 1985 in Sunnyvale, California, USA.
The company focused on the design and marketing of non-volatile memory devices (EEPROM, Flash) and mixed-signal products, e.g.
EEPROMs, NVRAMs, digital potentiometers, LED drivers and other analogue/mixed-signal ICs.
In the 1990s, Catalyst was at times one of the active suppliers in the market for non-volatile memory products, but struggled with difficult market conditions and losses.
The company underwent periods of restructuring and staff reductions in order to improve profitability.
Strategically, Catalyst attempted to transition from being a pure commodity memory supplier to mixed-signal ICs and specialised devices.
In 2008, Catalyst Semiconductor was acquired by ON Semiconductor (now onsemi).
Following the acquisition, Catalyst was fully integrated into ON Semiconductor, with products and technologies being incorporated into ON's portfolio or discontinued.
Catalyst no longer exists as an independent company. After the acquisition in 2008, operations continued within the structures of onsemi.
ON Semiconductor now uses many of the analogue and mixed-signal technologies (including EEPROM, LED driver components, etc.) that were previously developed under the Catalyst brand.
