Dallas (Maxim)

Dallas (Maxim)
The company was founded in Dallas, Texas, in 1984.
It was founded by C. Vincent Prothro (often referred to as "Vin Prothro") together with former colleagues from Mostek Corporation.med to focus on analogue, digital and mixed-signal applications – such as real-time clocks (RTCs), battery backup, non-volatile RAM, temperature sensors, interfaces, etc.
In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Dallas Semiconductor continued to expand its position. For example, technologies such as the "Touch Memory" system were introduced in 1991.
1994: According to a report, sales amounted to approximately US$ 181.4 million with a net profit of around US$ 29.7 million.
The product range was diversified, with many customers worldwide – e.g. PC manufacturers, industrial control systems, telecommunications equipment.
Manufacturing capacities were also expanded, e.g. through the expansion of production facilities.

In 2001 (often also referred to as 2002), Dallas Semiconductor was acquired by Maxim Integrated.
Various sources cite the acquisition price as approximately US$2.5 billion.
The acquisition enabled Maxim to strengthen its portfolio in the areas of mixed-signal, analogue technology and customised components – Dallas contributed in particular its specialities in real-time clocks, 1-Wire/iButton interfaces, etc.
After the acquisition, the "Dallas Semiconductor" brand and its product labels ("DS...") continued to be used, at least for a transitional period.

Later, in 2021, Maxim Integrated was acquired by Analog Devices.
As a result, Dallas Semiconductor is now integrated into the Analog Devices group as part of the acquired technology and trademark rights.
