Polystyrene has the lowest dissipation factor, which means it can be used to construct particularly high quality capacitors. The capacitance constancy is very high, the frequency dependence of the dissipation factor and the capacitance are low. Polystyrene capacitors (Styroflex capacitors) exhibit an almost linear decrease in capacitance with increasing temperature, which is favourable for compensation purposes.
The low temperature resistance is sometimes a disadvantage (maximum 70 °C).
