The History of WAGO WAGO was founded in Minden in 1951 after founders Heinrich Nagel and Friedrich Hohorst discovered the idea of spring-cage terminal technology and acquired the rights to it. This screwless connection technology became the core of the company and shaped its development. In the following decades, WAGO developed from a small terminal block manufacturer into an international technology leader. Particularly important was the introduction of CAGE CLAMP® in the 1980s, which set new standards worldwide for secure electrical connections. Starting in the 1990s, WAGO expanded its portfolio to include automation technology, including modular I/O systems and controllers. The company grew globally and established locations in many countries. Today, WAGO is a globally active family-owned company with thousands of employees. It plays a central role in areas such as energy transition, building automation, Industry 4.0 and digitalisation – while remaining known for its reliable connection terminals.
